Everyday Occurances

May 14th- May19th

Ollie is settling into "normal" life between his treatments.  He is starting to show more OCD tendencies...or, rather, the ones that were already there seem to have been amplified some.  He wants every door/window/drawer shut, things set up-right, lights off, ect.  When he was going to bed the other night, he noticed the door on his outdoor play set was open.  I had to pull the shade down so he couldn't see it before he would relax and lay down.  He has also recently decided that he must sleep with EVERY stuffed animal in his crib.  Previously, he had no interest in any of them.  Two of them are about the same size as Oliver, he barely fits in the crib when he's got them all in there.  In addition, he wants at least 3, sometimes 4, blankets on him.  This adds to the sweating he was already dealing with at night.  He is usually soaked when he wakes up.  Of course, I try to sneak in and remove animals and blankets as soon as he is asleep.

On Wednesday the 15th, Ollie had another PT appointment.  Miss Laura came over and Ollie toured her around the house.  He even climbed onto Nana and Papa's bed...they were thrilled when Taylor told them because he used to sneak in a climb up the footboard to join them in the mornings.  Ollie hadn't been able to do that since he'd gotten sick and they'd both talked about how they visualized him being able to again.Later in the day, Oliver bit Nana's behind!  She yelped in surprise and Oliver started crying.  He was being playful when he did it and thought he hurt her.  It took a lot to calm him down, apparently.  Taylor had to take Ollie back outside for more sandbox play to distract him.  The rest of the day, Oliver followed his Papa around everywhere...  Papa's little shadow.

Thursday the 16th was a really good, if very early, day.  Ollie woke up very happy at 6 am and stayed happy most of the day.  Around 8, he snuck into Nana's room and climbed into bed with her.  They shared a pillow and watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  Then Ollie started tickling Nana and said, "I got your body!" (The first time he's done this with her since before).  Ollie was very mischievous the rest of the day, climbing onto Daisy's perch to unlock the dining room windows and rearranging all of Nana's shoes in her closet.  In doing so, he found a shoe he had lost for her several weeks before...the last time he'd been spunky enough to "re-organize".  Ollie also got his hands on Nana's sunglasses and asked to "try on".  She helped him put them on and he started laughing, then pushed them up and said "boo!".   Nana and Papa locked the deadbolt on the door to the garage to keep Ollie inside, less than 2 minutes later he was outside- on a flower-picking mission.  OT was today as well...Rose, his therapist lost her son when he as young and the 16th was his birthday.  She cried when Ollie hugged her and said he was very compassionate.  She also said Ollie is advanced for his age and doing great...Taylor is dreading the day she and Laura don't come to visit anymore.  Ollie loves them both and they really break up the day nicely for him.

The rest of the week was beautiful and he spent most of it outside in the kiddie pool and sand box.  On Saturday Ollie discovered frozen yogurt tubes.  He loves them and so do we- they take longer for him to eat than almost anything else and they are relatively mess-free.  After I got home from work Saturday, Ollie and I were playing in the living room when he decided to jump on my back....I was sitting on the trampoline.  Then he climbed higher up my shoulders and said "I a towboy" (cowboy) and "I a munte"(monkey)....sooo funny!  He got the cowboy bit from riding Sandy at Mejier and asked to go ride the horsey.  It was kind of sad since he had not yet asked to leave the house or go anywhere specific since his "quarantine" began.  It is harder to keep him isolated when it seems there is truly nothing he could do before that he cannot do now....and then some.

On Sunday, Nana was ready early for church so she came outside to play with us for a bit.  Oliver's meds cause him to need high doses of vitamin d, so we occasionally allow him to run around outside in his diaper.  Today was one of those instances...Until he jumped in the pool and soaked his diaper.  So, he got to be naked as a jaybird while he chased nana around yelling "poopoo lert" so she could pick up the dog poo around the yard.  It was hilarious.  Later in the day he was playing with the hose and his sandbox/pool.  He got water EVERYWHERE then explained "I raining on trees" and in the house and on mama and nana, ect.  The child LOVES to be outside and LOVES to control the hose.
