Knocked his socks off!

May 23, 2013

Ollie loves to facetime with his auntie Sarah

When Oliver wakes up in the morning (somewhere between 4:30-5:30 am) I bring him into our room where he will fall asleep again (usually only on the really early mornings) or he will ask for the ipad, "tone" (phone), and TV "awen".  On those mornings, he will watch an episode of Little Einstein's or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while we sleep.  Today, Ollie decided to get up and move around a bit.  I was aware, but not stopping him unless necessary....I'm so glad I didn't.  He decided that Taylor needed a "turt" on. He went to the dresser, pulled one out, and laid it on Taylor's tummy.  We had lots of laughs, hugs and kisses this morning.  Ollie is really starting to learn the songs we sing.  He can usually get the first and last parts of each line really well.  We sing Jesus Loves Me, the theme song to Little Einstein's, the I Love You Song, and the Alphabet Song frequently.

I usually leave at the last possible moment for work since the mornings are the most fun part of Oliver's day (and mine:).  Today when I left, my boys were playing in the basement.  As I loaded up my lunch, I realized I had the squirt guns I had bought the day before still in my bag.  So, as any good mother would, I left them on the kitchen table to be discovered later.  I didn't so much think about the fact that the forecast called for cloudy and cold.  Oliver found them and Taylor got to enjoy them for a good part of the morning:)  OOPS!

The highlight of today was really Ollie's follow-up visit with Dr Leber.  I was able to leave work to meet them at the clinic, so I was there when Ollie shocked the good doctor.  Dr Leber said he had been really anxious prior to visiting our room.  He wasn't sure what to expect as the last time one of the docs had seen him, Ollie was nearly completely paralyzed and mute.  Needless to say Dr Leber was stunned.  He said Oliver had truly made his day.  He mentioned that if it weren't for legalities he would ask to video tape Ollie so he could show the team that had rounded while Ollie was inpatient how much he had improved.  We told him to go for it.  So, he made a quick recording of Oliver jumping around, chattering.  (We later found out that his whole office had seen it and they were all thrilled.  It was pretty cool to have another group of people cheering for Oliver).  Dr Leber did talk about one abnormality in Oliver's labs (high sugar levels in his urine, but normal blood glucose level) but, after consulting with a kidney specialist, decided there was nothing to be concerned about.  Needless to say, Ollie knocked Dr Leber's socks off!

When I got home from work, we got ready for dinner. I changed his diaper and he was asking for alligator shadows on the wall.  Ollie kept grabbing my hands and trying to make the shadow figures for me.  He was belly laughing:) At dinner Ollie ate tacos (sodium free, yum) and "ice cream" (redi whip) then said "all done now", turned around and snuggled up on my shoulder.  I took him up to bed and he was so tired he didn't even want to put on pj's.
