Papa Randy's birthday....
To celebrate, the men went golfing and left my mom and I home with Oliver. Nana volunteered to watch Ollie so I could do a little shopping...LONG overdue! When I got home, I had to search for my little bug. He and Nana were playing in the basement and it was obvious they had had some fun while I was gone. Ollie had upgraded the director's chair that Nana had been sitting in... he added armrest covers and a pillow to make it more comfortable. Ollie also convinced Nana to "color" on the dry erase board like Mimi had yesterday. I knew Mimi was artistic, but I don't think I've ever seen my mom draw, but she's got some skills! Apparently, Nana and Oliver had spent some time outside and Ollie got her to let him pick some of her flowers. He insisted on having one behind his ear...yes, sort of feminine, but he offset it with authority when he picked up his toy hammer and "beat the snot out of his blocks" (according to Nana). Needless to say, Oliver enjoyed every moment of his play time. My mom and I switched places and she headed out to shop for Papa's birthday present and dinner. Ollie's only disappointment was in being forced to clean up his mess...he is not a fan!
We had dad's birthday dinner at home, of course, a yummy mix of BBQ options. For dessert, we had strawberry shortcake with ice cream and Ollie had his "ice cream" (sodium free whipped cream) and strawberries. He LOVED it! After dessert, Papa opened his present-with Oliver's help- he liked the golf bag mom picked out. Predictably, Oliver enjoyed the box more! He and Papa took it into the other room, where Oliver climbed into it. Then Papa carried the box into the dining room and Ollie jumped up and surprised me. The look of pure joy on his face was awesome...the entertainment value was priceless. He repeated the "surprise" over and over.
Happy Birthday, PAPA!
